This is Brazil’s Belo Monte Dam

This destructive hydroelectric dam is being built on the Xingu River in the Brazilian Amazon Basin rainforest. Combined with the companion Altamira Dam yet to be built, this will flood and destroy over 6500 square kilometers (2500 square miles) of rainforest and the ancestral lands of the Araweté/Igarapé Ipixuna, Koatinemo, Arara, Kararaô, and Cachoeira Seca do Irirí indigenous peoples of the region. And these are just the first of 60 dams planned across the Amazon by Brazil.
